Introduction

Slofi (Sloe-ghee) is a classically constructed eighth part of the ancient dynasty, originally bred to work on game such as hare, fox, jackal, gazelle and wild boar in the penitentiary of its homeland. It is a lean, no-frills hound that stands between 24 and 29 at the shoulder. Coat colors range from light sand to mahogany reddish-brown, with or without brindling, with or without black markings, with no aggressive white markings. Sloughie’s large, deep eyes are often described as “sad”.

History

Like many breeds developed in antiquity around the Mediterranean basin, the wide origins of sloughi are, in the inevitable words of dog historians – “lost in the haze of history.” We know that the Sloughie-type hounds were the favorite hunting companions of the Egyptian nobles, barbaric kings, and nomadic chieftains, who kept packs of strict but beautiful Hunting Dogs that could play across vast expanses of the desert. Three smallpox breeds originated from this hot, arid region: Sloughie was originally bred by Berbers and Bedouins in North Africa, Azawakh by Toureg (a Berber tribe) in Central Africa, and Saluki by Bedouins in the Middle East. . It is theorized that the barbarous horsemen who accompanied Hannibal during their famous crossing of the Alps may have introduced Sloughi to Europe.

General Appearance

Sloughie is a medium-large, short-haired, smooth-coated, athletic sigh developed in North Africa (in the region including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya), such as rabbit, fox, jackal, gazelle, and jungle pig. It is an ancient breed, valued over long distances in North Africa for its hunting skills, speed, agility and endurance. It is a strong, but elegant and racist, stalking dog with no exaggeration of body or limb length, muscle development, angle, or waist curve. Sloughie is not only a delicate dog, but also a dog with class and grace. The attitude is noble and somewhat different, and the expression of deep eyes is gentle and melancholy.

The fourth part called the Anestrus. The time span between heat periods ordinarily keeps going around a half year. The litter size ranges between 6 to 8 puppies at a time’

Grooming

Little, smooth and fine coat of sloughie requires very little to maintain. Brushing weekly with a soft bristle brush or hound glove should keep it smooth and smooth. An occasional bath can help keep the hound clean. If necessary, ears should be regularly inspected and cleaned. Nails should be cut regularly as needed, as too long nails can cause discomfort to the dog.

Training

Sloughie is an intelligent and loyal breed that is somewhat different. He does best with carers and sensitive bosses. Sloughis require adequate exercise, and do not respond well to rigorous training methods. Despite their athleticism, they are very quiet at home. Some Sloughies are shy; Most are simply very careful and cautious about their personal space. They have a strong sense of self, which clearly shows when they are chasing the game or are strongly challenged. As with most breaths, care is necessary when out of a sloughie lead.

Sloughie puppies need socialization to become properly adjusted adults, such as puppy classes and exposure to many new people and situations. Being a sensitive soundhound, Slofey requires training methods that are based on the principles of positive reinforcement.

Nutrition

Although generally living at home, Sloughie is a somewhat active breed — she is a well-to-do housedog of high prey drive when pursued. This elegant, very athletic hound requires adequate exercise, preferably in a safely enclosed area including full sprinting opportunities. Greed games such as dog sports can engage the breed with mental and physical activity that they will enjoy very much.

Exercise

Sloughie should perform well on high quality dog food, whether it is commercially manufactured or prepared at home with the supervision and approval of your vet. Any diet should be appropriate for the age of the dog (puppy, adult, or senior). Some dogs are at risk of being overweight, so watch your dog’s calorie consumption and weight levels. Treatment training can be an important aid, but giving too much can lead to obesity. Know which human foods are safe for dogs and which are not. Contact your vet if you have any concerns about your dog’s weight or diet. Clean, fresh water must be available at all times.

Health

Sloughies are generally healthy dogs, and responsible breeders have tested their stock for health conditions such as progressive retinal atrophy. A sloughie’s ears should be examined regularly for signs of infection, and teeth should be brushed frequently using toothpaste designed for dogs. Regular visits to the vet for checkups and parasite control help the dog ensure a longer, healthier life.
